Welcome to Bear Wood Company!
We’re a small woodworking business nestled in West Virginia, dedicated to preserving history and telling local stories through reclaimed wood.
Unlike mass-produced furniture from large factories, every piece we create is handcrafted with care. No particle board, MDF, or laminate here—just real wood, salvaged from people like you who recognize the value in reusing something good.

One of a Kind.
Each piece is made the old-fashioned way—by hand. We saw, sand, and sweat over every item to ensure it’s crafted to perfection. And when it comes time to finish, we don’t rely on machines. We do it the old fashioned way. You know, like your grandpa used to do it – a rag, some oil, wax or whatever type of finish the piece calls for. Once it’s ready we proudly stamp the Bear Wood Company seal on your one-of-a-kind piece.
Our Designs
Our designs reflect who we are and where we’re from—West Virginia. Since our start in 2014, we’ve aimed to create furnishings that don’t just look good in any home but also celebrate the spirit of our state. From our Rustic States collection to the bears, fish, and trees woven into our designs, everything honors our roots. The black bear is our state animal, fishing is a local pastime, and evergreen trees frame our mountain landscapes. And while we’re constantly working on new ideas, you get the sense of our direction.

Our branding statement, calling card, slogan, marketing tagline, ah, whatever you want to call it is, “Always Home”. It fits. It’s simple. It’s what we’re about. Hopefully, you’ll get that warm and fuzzy feeling of home when you think of us, or see that phrase on our website or one of our social posts. If you see it enough, maybe it’ll even subconsciously influence you to buy something. That’d be cool with us.

Rustic States Collection
One of our most popular items is the Rustic State—a proud wooden cutout of any state that holds a special place in your heart. We love West Virginia, but we’ll craft whichever state you want with the same care and craftsmanship. Our rustic states are made from reclaimed wood—wood that has its own story. We meet with people to learn the history of the material, and we pass that story on to you. Many of our supplies come from local barns, businesses, homes, and even bowling alleys and gymnasiums. Each piece of wood carries its own heritage—like the floorboards from a Charleston home that originated from the Meadow River Lumber Company, once the largest sawmill in the world.
